Vikrant Massey Announces Break from Films, Fans Blame Nepotism: “We Don’t Want Another Sushant”

Vikrant Massey, known for his exceptional performances in films like 12th Fail and The Sabarmati Report, has left fans shocked by announcing a temporary retirement from acting. The 37-year-old actor took to Instagram in the early hours of December 2 to share his decision, saying it was time to “recalibrate and go back home.”

In his heartfelt note, Vikrant wrote:
“The last few years and beyond have been phenomenal. I thank each and every one of you for your indelible support. But as I move forward, I realise it’s time to recalibrate and go back home. As a Husband, Father & a Son. And also as an Actor. Coming 2025, we would meet each other for one last time. Until time deems right. Last 2 movies and many a years of memories. Thank you again, forever indebted.”

Although Vikrant didn’t specify the reason behind his move, fans have linked his decision to the ongoing debate about nepotism in Bollywood. Social media was flooded with comments from fans speculating that the pressures of being an outsider in the film industry may have played a role.

One user wrote, “Suddenly? Is everything alright? We really love your work. We already lost a gem like SSR; we don’t want to lose you too!” Another commented, “If Bollywood mafia is threatening him, it’s practical to step away for his family’s safety. We don’t want another tragedy.”

For years, outsiders in Bollywood have opened up about the challenges of navigating an industry often perceived as favoring those from film families. While star kids get repeated chances despite flops, outsiders are under immense pressure to prove themselves with every film. The untimely demise of Sushant Singh Rajput in 2020 further fueled conversations about the alienation and struggles faced by non-insiders.

What’s Next for Vikrant?

Currently, Vikrant is busy wrapping up his remaining projects, Yaar Jigri and Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan. His fans, while disappointed, are hopeful for his return after 2025, as he hinted in his note: “Until time deems right.”

As the industry debates the reasons behind Vikrant’s decision, his admirers continue to shower him with love and support, hoping this is just a pause and not a permanent goodbye.
